Goa to Implement 100% National Education Policy in Higher Education from Next Academic Year: CM to Centre

According to an official statement, Sawant stated, "We have begun working on implementing the National Education Policy in the state. The implementation process has already begun in state-run schools or getting state aid."

The Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, stated on Sunday that the state government will begin implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) at higher education institutes starting with the next academic year. This will be done in accordance with a hundred percent of the syllabus.

His remarks were given during the seventh meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council, held in New Delhi and presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sawant stated that the state government is working on upskilling the state’s workforce through signing agreements with various industrial organisations in the state.

According to an official statement, Sawant stated, “We have begun working on implementing the National Education Policy in the state. The implementation process has already begun in state-run schools or getting state aid.”

According to the CM, the state government is working to raise awareness about NEP among students, parents, and teachers. The implementation of NEP at the university and college levels has already begun. The Prime Minister has announced that the NEP will form the basis for a hundred percent of the curricula used in higher education institutions starting with the upcoming academic year.

Sawant stated that every industrial group in the state has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state of Goa for the purpose of skill development.

“We are making preparations for the workforce that the industry will require in the foreseeable future. We have signed agreements with 35 industry associations,” he said. Sawant also stated that the hotel business in Goa will require two lakh employees over the course of the next five years. The government plans to provide training for these workers.

In his discussion of agriculture, Sawant mentioned that the coastal state of Goa places a strong focus on the cultivation of paddy and cashew crops. In addition, as part of the process of crop diversification, “we are also mandating that pulses and oil seeds be cultivated,” he stated.

We had a history of importing a hundred percent of the required horticultural products from other states, but now that the Central government is promoting agricultural activity, we are only importing twenty percent of our vegetables from those other states, he said.

About NEP (National Education Policy)

The National Education Policy of India 2020, as it defines the vision of a new education system for India, was approved by the Union Cabinet of India on July 29, 2020. The old National Policy on Education, which was created in 1986, has been replaced by the new policy.

Both rural and urban areas of India would benefit from the strategy, as it provides a complete framework for primary education, higher education, and vocational training. The new initiative intends to completely revamp India’s education system by the year 2040.

Shortly after the policy was made public, the government provided clarification that no one would be forced to study any specific language and that the medium of instruction would not be changed from English to any regional language. It is up to the states, schools, and institutions to decide how the language policy should be implemented, as it is only a broad guideline that serves in an advisory capacity as part of NEP’s language policy. India’s Concurrent List includes the subject of education.
