NALSAR Convocation Controversy: Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra apologised to law students across the country on Saturday. This apology came amidst the controversy surrounding an order that had restrained State Bar Councils from enrolling graduates from the NALSAR University of Law’s 2026 batch as advocates, a decision that was subsequently withdrawn.
In a statement, Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said, “The events of the past few days have caused anxiety and resentment among a section of students. Whenever students feel hurt or distressed, their concerns should be heard with patience, sensitivity, and respect.”
He further added, “If the sentiments of our law students have been hurt by anything related to this controversy, or by any of my statements or letters, I express my deep regret and offer an apology.”
Manan Kumar Mishra is a prominent lawyer, Senior Advocate, and politician in India. He serves as the Chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI) and represents Bihar as a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He holds the distinction of being the longest-serving head in the history of the BCI, having held this apex regulatory position for over a decade.
