BCCI Decided to Release the left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman

Over the last few days, there have been unfortunate incidents in Bangladesh that evoke outrage among the natives. Multiple Hindus were killed in Bangladesh, and this caused hate and backlash towards Bangladeshi cricketer, KKR and co-owned Sharukh Khan as well. Thus, to solve the democratic disputes between India and Bangladesh, the BCCI decided to release the left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman.

On 3rd January 2026, the BCCI Secretary, Devajit Saikia, announced the removal of Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL (Indian Premier League). No discussion or meetings were held among members of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) regarding the decision of releasing Bangladesh pacer, Mustafizur Rahman.

But due to BCCI’s decision, Bangladesh Cricket Board took action as well. They wrote a letter to ICC (International Cricket Council) with a request to change its T20 World cup matches from India to Sri Lanka. Currently, the Bangladesh Government has ordered the indefinite suspension of the broadcast of IPL in the country. The BCB has stated clearly that they won’t take part in the upcoming World Cup, since the issues of safety and well-being of players have become a concern.

Bangladesh was scheduled to play alongside West Indies, Italy, England and Nepal. 3 matches will be held in Kolkata and 1 in Mumbai. But amidst diminishing political ties, the series is now on-hold while the BCCI waits for the approval from the government.
