Private Medical Colleges in Maharashtra: The cost of pursuing a medical degree in Maharashtra’s private colleges is rising once again. For the 2026-27 academic year, annual MBBS fees range from ₹7.50 lakh to ₹17.13 lakh; this significant disparity can heavily impact a family’s education budget and loan planning.
For parents already calculating the costs of tuition, hostel accommodation, food, books, and other expenses over the five-and-a-half-year course, even a small annual hike can add several lakh rupees to the total expenditure.
The new fee list approved by Maharashtra’s Fee Regulating Authority covers 19 private MBBS colleges. Vedanta Institute of Medical Sciences in Palghar tops the list with an annual fee of ₹17.13 lakh, followed by NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences in Nagpur at ₹15.62 lakh. At the lower end of the spectrum are Bharatratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Hospital in Pune, with an annual fee of ₹7.50 lakh, and SSPM Medical College in Sindhudurg, with a fee of ₹7.64 lakh.

Many private medical colleges in Maharashtra have seen substantial fee hikes. The annual fee at N.K.P. Salve Institute of Medical Sciences has risen from ₹13.95 lakh to ₹15.62 lakh, an increase of ₹1.67 lakh in a single year. The fees for Dr. Rajendra Gode Medical College in Amravati increased from ₹7.11 lakh to ₹8.93 lakh, whereas the fees for Parbhani Medical College increased from ₹7.54 lakh to ₹8.78 lakh. Parent representative Sudha Shenoy remarked, “It is unjustified for Vedanta to demand such high fees without any corresponding infrastructure upgrades.
Furthermore, while SSPM shows a lower tuition fee on paper, it charges exorbitant amounts for hostel, mess, and other expenses.” The fees at Terna Medical College in Navi Mumbai have now increased from ₹7.90 lakh to ₹9.13 lakh. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College in Nashik has also raised its fees from ₹11.96 lakh.
