TOEFL iBT Will Now be Accepted for Canadian Higher Education Institutions

ETS states, "The TOEFL iBT test is already accepted by 100% of Canadian universities and is also the world's most widely accepted English language test,

Educational Testing Service (ETS) announced today that the TOEFL iBT test has been approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for use in the Canadian Student Direct Stream (SDS).

SDS is an accelerated study permit processing program for international students who plan to enroll in one of Canada’s post-secondary designated educational institutions.

Following this announcement, students can now start sending TOEFL iBT scores as part of their SDS application starting August 10, 2023. ETS claims that according to the IRCC, most SDS applications are processed within 20 days as long as all eligibility requirements are met calendar days.

ETS states, “The TOEFL iBT test is already accepted by 100% of Canadian universities and is also the world’s most widely accepted English language test, used by more than 12,000 institutions in more than 160 countries around the world.” Done through.”

In addition to the TOEFL iBT, the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) test is also accepted for Canada’s SDS scheme.

This update comes after ETS recently announced some updates to the TOEFL IBT test. As per the revised format, the TOEFL iBT test has been reduced by one hour, and will now take less than two hours to complete – earlier it was for a duration of three hours.

In addition, the exam will now have a new, more modern ‘Writing for Academic Discussion’ task. This will replace the previous free writing assignment. The reading section has also been shortened and all unscored test questions have been removed. Updated versions of TOEFLiBT free practice tests and TOEFL iBT practice sets are also available on the TOEFL website.

TOEFL is welcomed by over 12,000 institutions in over 160 countries and is universally accepted by over 98 percent of universities in popular destinations such as the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and in the UK.
