Study in Germany: Many students in India aim to study abroad after completing 12th class and then eventually settle in the country. According to a report by the Ministry of External Affairs, more than 1.3 million Indian students migrated for education purposes from 2017-2022. In terms of study destinations for Indian students, the United States ranks first, followed by Canada, United Arab Emirates, Australia and Saudi Arabia.
Another popular country for educational purposes is Germany, which is emerging as a top destination for Indian students due to its lowest tuition fees and 90 percent success rate for student visa, among other factors. Indeed, the cost of education in Germany is low because higher education is mostly publicly funded.
In such situations, students only have to take care of their living expenses, which German embassy officials told media houses was around 950 euros (including rent, local transport, food and entertainment).
As mentioned above regarding low tuition fees, Germany’s educational institutions are good for foreign talents. However, researching about them becomes a task considering that many universities are accepting international students. Therefore, it is important for students to know about the future prospectus of colleges, courses, admission process, scholarships, courses in the country or India.
Whether you want to apply for a graduate or master’s degree or a PhD, it is important to evaluate the demand and costs for students. With over 17,000 courses available in the country, students should analyze what suits their needs and market demand. There are some universities that offer free self-assessment which if used can help students assess their interest.
India and Germany have different education systems so it is important for candidates to have an overview of the subjects they want to study. There are many non-profit websites and organizations that support this requirement but one of them is the German Academic Exchange Service. The service provides a structured course overview of all types of degrees such as bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programs.
Like India’s NIRF ranking, Germany also has a country ranking system called the CHE University Ranking System. Through this ranking system, you can know whether the college or university you want to apply for is suitable for your course or not.
According to previous reports by media outlets, there are currently 43,000 Indian students enrolled in various colleges and universities in Germany, showing a 100 percent increase over the last five years. Officials at the German Embassy in New Delhi said they expect to see further growth, with around 45,000-50,000 Indian students enrolled by the end of 2024.
In 2023, Germany became the third most popular country for international students and first among non-English speaking countries. 16,850 new visas were issued by Germany to Indian students in the year 2023.
