WTC Final 2025: Now good news has come from Durban for the Indian team that defeated Australia in the Perth Test. The Test match between the host team and Sri Lanka started in this city of South Africa on Wednesday. This marks the inaugural Test match in the two-match series.

For the Indian team that defeated Australia in the Perth Test, good news has come from Durban. The Test match between the host team and Sri Lanka began in this South African city on Wednesday. In this match, the first session was still going on when it started raining heavily. We were forced to take a lunch break before time. Following this, we continued to wait for the rain to cease. The rain kept coming and going but the game could not resume and finally, the day’s play had to be declared over. At the end of the first day’s play, South Africa’s score was 80 runs for 4 wickets.

Africa-Sri Lanka Challenging for WTC Final 2025:

Now let us tell you how India and Australia will benefit from rain in the match between South Africa and Sri Lanka. Apart from India and Australia, there are only three teams in the race for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. These three teams are New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa. The initial Test match of the two-match series is currently taking place in Durban, featuring South Africa and Sri Lanka. Whichever team wins this match will overtake Australia in the WTC points table and come to second place. But if this match is drawn then this will not happen. If the Durban Test is drawn, Sri Lanka will slip from third to fourth place. New Zealand will benefit from this and will move from fourth place to third. South Africa will remain in fifth place.

The leading two teams will compete against each other in the championship game.

Talking about India is at number one in the WTC points table with 61.11 percent, points. Australia ranks second with a score of 57.69, followed by Sri Lanka in third place with 55.56. New Zealand occupies the fourth position with a score of 54.55, while South Africa rounds out the top five with a score of 54.17. The championship match will take place between the two leading teams in the WTC points standings.

To maintain its position within the top two, India must secure victory in a minimum of three Tests in Australia and achieve at least one draw. But if the Sri Lanka and South Africa Test ends in a draw, then India, Australia and New Zealand will get the direct benefit. In such a situation, it is natural for these three teams to be happy with the rain in Durban. Indeed, both Sri Lanka and South Africa would prefer to avoid a draw in the match entirely.
