Delhi’s primary schools will remain closed from today in view of rising air pollution levels in the capital. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took this decision during a press conference with the Chief Minister of Punjab on Friday, November 4.
Primary Schools in the National Capital Region will remain closed till the air quality improves. Along with schools, all outdoor activities will also remain closed for all classes above class 5.
In the conference, Delhi CM said that they are taking all the steps to control to control the pollution situation. He also gave emphases on mulling whether the odd-even scheme for vehicles should be implemented. However, the date to reopen the schools have not been decided yet. It is expected to be announced as the air quality in Delhi improves.
Meanwhile, Noida schools have decided to start online classes across the area due to rising air pollution. All schools will conduct online classes mandatorily for students from class 1 to class 8 in Gautam Budh Nagar district until 8th November in wake of rising air pollution.
According to the notice issued by District Magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar, Dharamveer Singh, schools have also been advised to hold online classes for students studying class 9 to class 12 as much as possible.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category for a second consecutive day on Friday, as per data released by SAFAR or System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research. The overall AQI of Delhi jumped to 472. Noida, which is part of the national capital region, recorded an AQI of 562, and continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category, while Gurugram’s AQI stood at 539 and continued to remain in the ‘severe’, as per data released by SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research) India.
