OBC reservation 27 % in Govt. recruitment ordered by MP Govt.

Taking a big decision by MP government on Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation, government has implemented 27% OBC reservation in government recruitment and examinations on Thursday. However, at present, the ban on 27% reservations in examinations will continue as the matter is pending in the High Court.

Speaking to ANI, Madhya Pradesh Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhuppendra Siingh said, “Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government has cleared 27 per cent (from 14 per cent) reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) for all departments, excluding the three departments which were put on stay. It’s a historic decision.”

In fact, the General Administration Department also issued an order in this regard. The order states that at present, 27% OBC reservation will not be applicable on the recruitment examinations as it has been banned by the High Court.

 Recruitment exams on hold:

Due to the petition filed in the High Court on medical education, MPPSC and teacher recruitment examinations, recruitment is currently on hold and the matter is also being heard in the High Court.

In such a situation, the General Administration Department has appealed to Advocate General Purushendra Kaurav of Madhya Pradesh. The order has been issued based on the argument given in the High Court.

While appearing for the government in the High Court, Kaurav had said that 27% reservation can be given to OBCs in government appointments and entrance examinations because the High Court had banned it only in six cases.

The government order stated that the interim orders where passed are applicable to the examination/subject matter in question which is impugned in the respective petitions.

Thus, in other cases, the government was free to make decisions. In March 2019, the then-Kamal Nath government increased the OBC reservation from 14% to 27%. But after this, the High Court had stayed it. At present, the matter will be heard on September 20.
