Recruitment of Railway Officers Through UPSC Civil Services and Engineering Exams

The Ministry of Railways is recruiting officers to the IRMS through the Civil Services Examination - 2022.

The Centre on Saturday approved the recruitment of railway officers through the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) and Engineering Services Examination (ESE). According to an official circular, the Ministry of Railways has decided that recruitment to the Indian Railway Management System (IRMS) will be done through both UPSC Civil Services Examination and ESE.

The Ministry of Railways is recruiting officers to the IRMS through the Civil Services Examination – 2022.

The Ministry of Telecommunications, being the nodal ministry for ESE, has already notified the ESE Rules for 2025 through its notification dated September 18, stating October 8 as the last date for submission of applications.

The official circular also said, β€œIt is requested that the involvement of the Ministry of Railways for the recruitment of engineers in various disciplines through ESE-2025 may kindly be added to the existing notification by issuing an addendum to the Indian Railway Management System (IRMS). In order to provide adequate opportunity to the candidates to apply, it is proposed that the last date for submission of applications may be suitably extended and notified on the UPSC website.”

The syllabus of the examination already notified will apply equally to the IRMS as well. Additionally, the functional classification and physical requirements in respect of PwBD candidates will apply to various disciplines as notified through ESE Rules – 2019 for various Railway Engineering Services.

The tentative number of vacancies to be recruited in IRMS through ESE 2025 is as follows: 75 vacancies for IRMS (Civil), 40 for IRMS (Mechanical), 50 for IRMS (Electrical), 40 for IRMS (S&T), and 20 vacancies for IRMS (Stores), which all the above 20 will be recruited from four disciplines i.e. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and S&T. The distribution for this will be informed later.
