72% of Employers Will Hire Freshers in HY2; E-Commerce and Tech Startups Make the Most

The report titled 'Career Outlook Report HY2 (July-December 2024)' was based on a survey of over 603 companies across India between April and June 2024.

E-Commerce and Tech Startups: Seventy-two percent of employers intend to hire freshers in the coming months, according to a report released by TeamLease EdTeach, a learning and employability solutions provider. The report titled ‘Career Outlook Report HY2 (July-December 2024)’ was based on a survey of over 603 companies across India between April and June 2024.

According to the report, this intention to hire fresh graduates indicates a positive trend in the job market for fresh graduates.

Hiring intentions of 72% represent an increase of four per cent from the previous half and seven per cent compared to the same period in 2023, suggesting a gradually improving employment scenario for new talent.

 “The increase in hiring intentions for new entrants is an encouraging sign. Shantanu Rooj, Founder and CEO of TeamLease EdTech, stated that this indicates an increasing confidence among employers and offers significant opportunities for emerging talent in the job market.

According to the report, the top three industries with highest hiring intentions for new entrants are e-commerce and technology start-ups, engineering and infrastructure and retail, with 61 per cent, 59 per cent and 54 per cent of employers in these sectors planning to recruit sequentially.

Among cities, Bengaluru leads with 74 per cent of employers looking to hire newcomers, followed by Mumbai at 60 per cent and Chennai at 54 per cent.

The most in-demand job roles for recent graduates include Full Stack Developer, SEO Executive, Digital Sales Associate, and UI/UX Designer.

Employers are particularly looking for candidates with skills in cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics, and search engine optimization.

Industry-Academia Collaboration, Degree Apprenticeship:

The report also highlights the growing importance of industry-academia collaboration. 70% of employers suggest enhancing curriculum with experiential learning, while 62% advocate industry-academia partnerships to better align academic training with industry needs.

Additionally, degree apprenticeships continue to show steady demand. 25% of employers plan to hire degree trainees, with manufacturing leading, followed by engineering and infrastructure at 19% and construction and real estate at 11%. Among cities, Bangalore shows the highest intention to hire trainees at 25%, followed by Chennai at 21% and Mumbai at 16%.
