The board of directors of Zomato Ltd has approved a proposal to change the company’s name to ‘Eternal Limited‘, the company said in a regulatory filing on Thursday. The decision was taken at a board meeting held on February 6, 2025.
“The board of directors of the company has approved changing the name of the company from ‘Zomato Limited’ to ‘Eternal Limited’, the filing said.
The board also approved a postal ballot notice to be sent to shareholders to seek their consent for the name change and related amendments to the company’s governing documents.
The approval is in line with the company’s strategy to transition to a multi-CEO structure, wherein its various businesses-Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure and District will operate under the larger umbrella of Eternal.
Explaining the rationale behind the name change, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said in a letter to shareholders, “When we acquired Blinkit, we started using ‘Eternal’ internally to differentiate between the company and the brand/app. We also thought that the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future, we would publicly rename the company to Eternal. Today, with Blinkit, I think we’ve gotten there.”
