Starlink Devices: Sources in central intelligence agencies have said based on their investigation that the Starlink dishes and routers recovered by security forces from insurgents in Manipur were not working and were not functional in the state bordering Myanmar.
“There were clear markings of Starlink on the device, but when we examined it, we found that it was not working in the area,” a senior officer told a media house on the condition of anonymity.
The Army has handed over the devices to the Department of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for forensic analysis, the officer said. Initial reports suggest they were not operational. However, a more detailed analysis of the reports is currently underway.
The forensic reports are being collated by the state and the Centre. Starlink, owned by billionaire Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX, is the world’s first and largest satellite company that uses low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet anywhere in the world where it has a license to operate the service.
Starlink is not available in India, though the US company has applied for regulatory approval. Elon Musk has said in a post on X that Starlink does not work in India.
