Republic Day 2025: Ceremony, Parades and Celebrations

Republic Day 2025: India celebrates its Republic Day every year on January 26. In 2025, the country will celebrate its 76th Republic Day on Sunday. The day is special as it was on this day in 1950 that India adopted its Constitution, when India became a sovereign republic.

The Republic Day celebrations are a live display of the country’s cultural diversity, military might and unity, with events such as parades, cultural performances and the grand Republic Day Parade held in New Delhi.

Republic Day 2025: Ceremony and Celebrations

The President addresses a speech to the nation on the night before Republic Day. On Republic Day, the President of India hoists the national flag in the national capital New Delhi, while Governors and Lieutenant Governors hoist the flag in the respective states and union territories.

The main Republic Day celebrations are held in New Delhi, on Kartavya Path, a ceremonial boulevard that runs from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill to India Gate. The celebrations are hosted by the President of India, with ceremonial parades and cultural programmes being held. The Delhi Republic Day Parade held during this time is organised by the Ministry of Defence.

The President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute from various units of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Para-Military and Police forces.
