Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s Kerala ‘Kasavu’ Saree During Swearing-in Brings Back Memories of her Grandmother Indira Gandhi

Priyanka Gandhi's choice of traditional attire as she stood to take oath as an MP from Wayanad on Thursday had a deeper meaning.

New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into the Lok Sabha was not just a political moment but a scene full of symbolism. Dressed in a Kerala Kasavu saree, Priyanka’s attire reminded many of a young Indira Gandhi, who was often seen in similar traditional sarees during her tenure in Parliament.

Priyanka Gandhi’s choice of traditional attire as she stood to take oath as an MP from Wayanad on Thursday had a deeper meaning. Holding a copy of the Constitution in her hand, Priyanka Vadra bore a striking resemblance to Indira Gandhi.

Many noticed how Priyanka Vadra’s appearance brought back memories of her grandmother and three-time prime minister Indira Gandhi. Indira Gandhi, who was known for her powerful personality, often used her attire to connect with the common people, and Priyanka Vadra’s choice of saree also seemed to echo the same sentiment.

When asked by a media person if she remembered her grandmother during the swearing-in ceremony, Priyanka replied, “Yes, I remembered her and I also remembered my father.”

Kasavu saree is not just an outfit; it is a symbol of the cultural unity of Kerala. Priyanka Vadra’s decision to wear it during the swearing-in ceremony also appeared as a respect to the people of Wayanad, who have chosen her as their representative.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Vadra’s mother Sonia Gandhi, brother Rahul, Rehan Vadra and Priyanka Vadra and Robert Vadra’s son and daughter Miraya Vadra also reached Parliament for the swearing-in ceremony. Priyanka Vadra won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by defeating Satyan Mokery of the Communist Party of India (CPI) by a margin of 4,10,931 votes.

The Congress stronghold Wayanad witnessed a triangular contest between Priyanka Vadra, BJP’s Navya Haridas and Satyan Mokery of the CPI.
