Prime Minister Modi Wins in Varanasi, But Sees a Big Decline in Vote Share

The PM won the seat with 6,12,970 votes (54.24%), while Ajay Rai got 4,60,457 votes (40.74%).

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won the Varanasi seat for the third consecutive time after the Election Commission released the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday.

The PM won the seat with 6,12,970 votes (54.24%), while Ajay Rai got 4,60,457 votes (40.74%).

Although the PM has managed to achieve a hat-trick, the victory is bittersweet as his vote share has declined by nearly 9 per cent.

In 2019, Prime Minister Modi had won this seat with 6,74,664 votes (63.62%). In 2014, he had won the seat with 5,81,022 votes (56.37%).

Ajay Rai, who had secured only 14% vote share in 2019, increased it to 40.74% this time. This increase is partly due to seat sharing between Congress and Samajwadi Party. SP did not field any candidate from this seat.
