How this doctor built an education empire from his dorm room:

More than two million students worldwide have used UWorld – an online learning platform used to prepare for high-stakes exams ranging from the SAT to the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).

The test prep resources he found provided a passive approach to learning, and he knew that mastering a subject involved active learning.

Founder Dr. Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani arrived in the US from India to complete his residency. He took out enough loans to purchase USMLE study materials to successfully pass the exam. However, despite significant investment, they did not find the content particularly helpful in achieving the desired marks.

Many of his colleagues were in the same situation and asked for help, so as he started his residency, Pemmasani decided to write 200 pages of case-based scenarios for the USMLE.

Apart from his medical qualifications, Dr. Pemmasani also delved deeply into the world of business. He has an extensive investment portfolio that includes more than 100 publicly traded companies in the US, such as tech giant Microsoft Corp, soft-drink giant Coca-Cola Co, innovative transportation unit Uber Technologies and multinational technology corporation Apple Inc.
