Pakistan vs England, England beat Pakistan by 5 Wickets, Crowned Champions

Pakistan vs England: T20 World Cup Highlights: Pakistan may have managed only 137/8 but they ensured that England had to crawl their way to their second T20 World Cup title.

This is England’s second T20 World Cup title after 2010. Pakistan’s only title came in 2009 at Lord’s.

Star all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was also a protagonist in England’s 2019 World Cup final win, hit the winning runs and scored his first-ever T20I half century in the process. He finished on 52 off 49 balls.

Pakistan looked capable of defending the total when they dialled up the pressure but Stokes and Moeen Ali turned it around with some big hits in the last five overs. Earlier, it was Sam Curran who led the way for England with figures of 3/12.

England and New Zealand both tied on 241 each after their respective 50 overs. They both scored 15 in the super-over shootout – but England were declared winners courtesy hitting more boundaries in their 50 overs.

Pakistan vs England Highlights:

The England cricket team emerged as the force to reckon with in the white-ball cricket in recent years and they have achieved something on Sunday which no other teams have managed to so far. Riding on Ben Stokes unbeaten 52 and disciplined bowling by left-arm pacer Sam Curran (3/12) and leg-spinner Adil Rashid (2/22), England edged Pakistan by 5 wickets to win the T20 World Cup and become the sport’s first dual white-ball champions, holding both the 50 and 20-over titles.

In finals especially when chasing.. you probably forget all the hard work before that, how we bowled, Adil Rashid and Sam Curran won us the game. It was a tricky wicket and one that you never felt in, so to restrict them to 130-odd bowlers you have to take a lot of credit for that. With that (defeat to Ireland) being so early in the competition we obviously had to address it, say what had to be said and then let it go. In tournaments like these you can’t carry baggage with you, that was a little blip on the way, credit to Ireland for turning up and beating us, but the best teams learn from their mistakes and not let it affect them. Pretty good evening. Representing your country in World Cups is amazing.. but it has been a good one.

Ben Stokes (52* off 49; 1 for 32)
