Opening Ceremony of Paris Paralympics Today: More than 100 Members of the Indian Team will Participate

For the first time in the history of the Games, the ceremony will be held outside the stadium. The opening ceremony will be held on the Champs Elysees and Place de la Concorde.

Paris Paralympics is starting from today i.e. 28th August. This event will continue till 8th September. Over a hundred members of the Indian delegation, including 52 athletes, are set to participate in the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympics on Wednesday.

For the first time in the history of the Games, the ceremony will be held outside the stadium. The opening ceremony will be held on the Champs Elysees and Place de la Concorde. Players who have a match on Thursday will not take part in the parade of countries. These also include a 10-member shooting team.

Javelin thrower Sumit and shot put player Bhagyashree will be the flag bearers.

Indian Paralympic Committee President Devendra Jhajharia said, “Players who have matches on August 29 will not take part in the opening ceremony. The shooting team will not take part in the Parade of Nations.

106 members of India will participate in the Parade of Nations, which includes 52 players and 54 officials. Javelin thrower Sumit Antil (F-64) and shot put player Bhagyashree Jadhav (F-34) will be the flag bearers for India.

84 athletes from India will participate

The Paris Paralympics will be an 11-day event. Indian athletes are also becoming a part of this event. 84 athletes from India will participate in 12 sports. 95 officers have also gone with him. The Indian team consists of a total of 179 members. India’s participation in this event will start with Para Badminton. Para badminton mixed doubles group stage, men’s singles group stage and women’s singles group stage will be held on August 29. All three competitions will start tomorrow at 12 noon.

Indian team will be expected to bring record medal

India won a record 19 medals, including 5 gold, at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021 and finished 24th in the rankings. After three years, India will aim to take the gold medal count to double digits and win more than 25 medals in total. This time India is participating in 12 sports, whereas in Tokyo the 54-member team took part in 9 sports.
