NEET UG Updates: SC Asks NTA to Publish Centre-wise Results by Saturday Afternoon

The court was hearing petitions seeking and opposing re-examination of the NEET-UG 2024 exams on allegations of question paper leak, among other irregularities in the results.

NEET UG Updates: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the centre-wise results of this year’s NEET UG exam on its website by Saturday afternoon, hiding the identity of the candidates.

National Testing Agency (NTA) has been directed to release the scores of NEET-UG 2024 exam while protecting the anonymity of the students. The results in respect of each center should be declared separately,” a Three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said.

The court was hearing petitions seeking and opposing re-examination of the NEET-UG 2024 exams on allegations of question paper leak, among other irregularities in the results.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, said that though the results can be published, doing so centre-wise is fraught with serious problems. “There are coaching centres, there are many problems,” Mehta told the bench also comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.

He urged the bench to postpone the Centre-wide publication but the court did not agree. “No…let it happen.” We will have to see the end of the case by Monday,” the CJI said while fixing its next hearing for July 22.

“In fact, the reason why we were engaged in a detailed line or inquiry is the fact that at least in Patna and Hazaribagh there was a leak… but a leak in the sense that… the question papers were already circulated before xamination, there is no doubt about it,” CJI Chandrachud said.

“The question we want to consider now is whether it was limited to only these two centres, so there is no question of re-testing, or whether it was more widespread. The students have some degree of disability because they will never have the kind of data that is required to prove,” the CJI said.
