Narendra Modi, Macron Hope Number of Indian Students in France will Increase by 2025

A joint statement issued after the meeting here said the two leaders welcomed the successful launch of the International Class Scheme last year.

Indian Students in France: A joint announcement made by India and France on Wednesday during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Paris said the estimated number of Indian students this year will reach 10,000.

PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron called for enhancing trade and investment ties between the two countries and committed to further deepen their engagement in the Indo-Pacific and various global forums and initiatives.

A joint statement issued after the meeting here said the two leaders welcomed the successful launch of the International Class Scheme last year. Under the scheme, Indian students are taught French as a foreign language and methodology and pedagogical content at highly reputed French universities in France during one academic year, before entering their chosen course in France.

The joint statement said, “This will create favourable conditions to increase student mobility and achieve the target of 30,000 students in France by 2030. In this regard, they welcomed the growing number of Indian students in France, which is expected to reach an unprecedented 10,000 by 2025.”

The two leaders gave their approval to the implementation of the Young Professionals Scheme (YPS) as part of the India-France Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (MMPA). The initiative aims to promote reciprocal mobility for youth and professionals, thereby strengthening the ties of friendship between the citizens of India and France.
