Maha Kumbh: A stampede broke out at the Maha Kumbh on Wednesday ahead of the Amrit Snan during Mauni Amavasya. 10 crore devotees are expected to attend the Maha Kumbh.
Ambulances were sent to the ghat and the injured were taken to the central hospital inside the fair grounds for treatment. Officials said that many people were brought to the hospital in a dying condition.
Speaking about the stampede at the Maha Kumbh, Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana said, “A stampede-like situation arose after some barriers broke on the Sangam routes. Some people have been injured. They are being treated. It is not a serious situation…”
UP CM Yogi Adityanath said, situation is under control: A while ago, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the situation is under control and some devotees have suffered serious injuries. Adityanath said that around eight to ten crore people are present in Prayagraj today for ‘Amrit Snan’ and he has urged people to be cautious. Many people are feared injured and have been taken to hospital.
What is the current situation? Heavy security has been put in place at Sangam, as police have cleared the way for akhadas for the second ‘Amrit Snaan’ today. “People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats here… There was pressure and huge crowd in the morning. Many akhadas asked us to control the crowd and said they will come out for the bath later. Now that the crowd is under control, our preparations for the akhadas and saints are complete,” Vaibhav Krishna, DIG Maha Kumbh told news agency ANI.
