Kash Patel: Kashyap Pramod Vinod “Kash” Patel, born February 25, 1980, is an American attorney and former federal prosecutor appointed as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 2025. He is known for his unwavering loyalty to former President Donald Trump and has served in several key roles within the Trump administration.

Early life and education:

Patel was born to Indian immigrants of Gujarati origin who moved to the United States from Uganda in the early 1970s. He was raised in Hinduism on Long Island, New York. Patel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond and later received a Juris Doctor degree from Pace University School of Law.

Career trajectory:

Public defender and federal prosecutor: Patel began his legal career as a public defender, handling complex cases involving murder, drug trafficking, and other serious crimes in both state and federal courts.

House Intelligence Committee: In 2017, he joined the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence as a senior counsel on terrorism, playing a key role in the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

National Security Council: Patel served as the senior director of the Counterterrorism Directorate at the National Security Council in 2019, and contributed to shaping United States counterterrorism policies.

Department of Defense: He was appointed as Chief of Staff to the Acting US Secretary of Defense during the latter part of the Trump administration, where he was involved in key defense and security decisions.

Appointment as FBI Director

In November 2024, President Donald Trump nominated Patel to replace Christopher A. Wray as FBI Director. The Senate confirmed his appointment by a vote of 51–49. Patel’s tenure has seen significant organizational changes within the bureau, including the retirement and dismissal of several top leaders, reflecting his commitment to restructuring the agency.
