New Delhi: In a milestone for India’s space capabilities, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) completed its first-ever satellite docking maneuver early Thursday, 16 January 2025, marking a crucial step toward several upcoming missions including Chandrayaan-4 and the country’s own space station in the pipeline.
Multiple sources have confirmed that the docking attempt was successful. No official announcement has been made till the time of writing this report. With this, India has taken the first step towards joining an exclusive club of countries – USA, Russia and China that claim to have such technology. Many more docking trials will be required before ISRO can claim to have mastered the technique.
The Space Docking Experiment (SPADEX), launched on December 30, saw the two satellites being launched separately, assembled at an orbital altitude of about 475 km, and the final commands given from the Bengaluru-based ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC).
