IPL Auction 2025: 7 Players Mumbai Indians Can Buy with Their Remaining Budget

MI have retained all their capped players, which means they only have Rs 45 crore to work with. They also have only one RTM card, which can only be used for an uncapped player (Akash Madhwal, Naman Dheer, Nehal Wadhera and Chawla).

IPL Auction 2025: Mumbai Indians have retained several quality players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma. And since all of them are Indians, their focus in the auction will be on foreign players. Among these, fast bowlers in particular might pique their interest, given the conditions at the Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians Remaining Purse: Rs 45 Crore

IPL Auction 2025: Player Target

1. Quinton de Kock : A wicketkeeper-batsman who needs no introduction, and has been a part of MI’s title-winning teams. A wicketkeeper and an opening partner for Rohit are required, and he is an ideal candidate for the role. If he falls out of their budget, Kusal Mendis could be another option, especially now that Mahela Jayawardene is back.

2. Jitesh Sharma : Jitesh Sharma might be difficult to get, but he will help solve some of Mumbai’s problems. He can operate as a keeper, a finisher, and will enjoy the real pitches of the Wankhede Stadium. He has been in the MI environment before and has recently expressed his desire to play for the franchise.

3. Marco Jansen: Like de Kock, Jansen has played for MI in the IPL before, and even though he might be in more demand than before, he will give them a great left-handed option – something that MI love. Jansen is also a very capable hitter in the lower order and will add more strength to a strong batting unit.

4. Trent Boult: When it comes to left-arm pacers, there is no one better than Boult in the world. This means he will be in demand, but Mumbai, with their batting prowess, can get the Kiwis in just as quickly.

The fact that he is playing for MI New York and MI Emirates shows that the franchise still holds him in high regard.

5. Shardul Thakur: Thakur played his entire domestic career for Mumbai, but interestingly, he never played for Mumbai Indians. 2025 could be the year he could make a breakthrough. His stocks have fallen in the last few years, which means he might not get the price he did in the 2022 mega-auction, which could be beneficial for MI.

6. Rahul Chahar: Mumbai Indians have never been overly reliant on spinners, often relying on them to play specific roles. Chahar once excelled and was included in India’s T20 World Cup squad in 2021. There may be other suitors for him, but having struggled on the spin-bowling front, MI could be tempted to bring him back. If he is unavailable, Piyush Chawla, who is now eligible as an uncapped player, is also an option.

7. Kagiso Rabada: A bowling attack with the presence of Bumrah and Rabada is nothing short of a fantasy. But MI can do the same, especially if they get their preferred uncapped and low-priced targets. Rabada has been playing for MI’s other franchises around the world and he could be Mumbai Indians’ preferred overseas fast bowler.

Fit in the budget

MI have retained all their capped players, which means they only have Rs 45 crore to work with. They also have only one RTM card, which can only be used for an uncapped player (Akash Madhwal, Naman Dheer, Nehal Wadhera and Chawla). So, they will have to be very judicious about the way they spend their money.
