Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a distinguished scholar, philosopher and Bharat Ratna awardee, was born on September 5, 1888. He served as the first Vice President of India and later became the country’s second President. Renowned for his significant contributions as a teacher, philosopher and academic, Dr. Radhakrishnan’s legacy is celebrated every year on 5 September, in recognition of his extraordinary dedication to education, as a teacher in India since 1962.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a distinguished Indian politician, philosopher and statesman who served as the second President of India from 1962 to 1967. He previously served as the first Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962. He was the second Ambassador of India to the Soviet Union from 1949 to 1952.He served as the fourth Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) from 1939 to 1948 and the second Vice-Chancellor from 1931 to 1936 of Andhra University.
Dr. Radhakrishnan, considered one of the 20th century’s most influential and distinguished scholars of comparative religion and philosophy, held the King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Sciences at the University of Calcutta from 1921 to 1932, and the Professor of Eastern Religions and Philosophy at the University of Oxford from 1936 to 1952.
