IIM Bangalore: The director of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) and seven others have been booked for allegedly discriminating on the basis of caste against a Dalit associate professor, police said on Saturday.
The case was registered after the associate professor filed a complaint against the IIM B director and other faculty members on Friday under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Indian Justice Code.
What did the professor say? According to the police, IIMB associate professor Gopal Das has alleged that eight people deliberately disclosed his caste at the workplace and deprived him of equal opportunity. He further alleged that he was threatened and also mentally harassed.
Talking about the case, a senior police officer said, “We received the complaint and registered a case. However, the people named in the FIR claimed that they obtained a stay order from the court the same evening.
But we have not received the order yet from the court.” Based on the investigation report of the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE), the Social Welfare Department directed the DGP of Karnataka Police to initiate legal action on the complaint filed of the said associate professor.
