Hamdard Society: Hamdard Education Society (HES) has issued a public notice refuting a report published in the Times of India on July 23, 2025, which claimed that Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR) withdrew 150 MBBS and 49 postgraduate medical seats due to fund diversion of Rs 813 crore flagged by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
In its clarification, HES said the seat withdrawal stems entirely from the unilateral decision of Jamia Hamdard University to cancel affiliation on June 6, 2024, in violation of the status quo order of the Delhi High Court.
The notice further states that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has not cited any financial or compliance lapses against HIMSR. The allegation of misappropriation of Rs 813 crore has been termed “baseless”, with HES claiming that HIMSR’s accounts, audited by other firms, including PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), showed no financial irregularities. Instead, the sponsoring body had contributed Rs 426 crore for setting up HIMSR.
HES said HIMSR operates autonomously under the Memorandum of Understanding and the resolution of the Board of Management of 2021. However, it alleged continued administrative interference, including freezing of the hospital’s accounts and disruption of academic work.
The society confirmed HIMSR’s continued recognition and accreditation as a medical college and reiterated its compliance with National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations. It also assured that all students currently enrolled will remain unaffected by this ongoing dispute.
“We are actively in touch with the authorities and are pursuing the matter in the court on a priority basis. “Any official response will be updated immediately upon receipt,” the official statement said. It urged students, parents, and the general public to avoid speculation and rely on verified information.
