G20 Summit: The G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held in New Delhi today September 9-10, 2023. More than 30 heads of state and top officials from the EU, invited guest countries and heads of 14 international organizations are expected to attend.
Officials aware of the matter said at least 29 flights carrying heads of state or their representatives landed in the capital on Friday, with the Indira Gandhi International Airport deploying additional air traffic controllers (ATCOs) to coordinate all flight activities.
Ahead of the summit, strict traffic restrictions have been imposed to restrict vehicular movement in the area where the G20 summit venue and hotels for delegates are located.
The first foreign delegate to reach Delhi on Friday was Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, who arrived at 6.20 am. “Other dignitaries who arrived on Friday included heads of state and representatives from South Africa, UK, Oman, Russia, Japan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Republic of Korea, Egypt, Italy Australia, US, Canada, China, UAE, Netherlands, Singapore, Turkey, Brazil, Spain and Indonesia. The German chancellor and the president of France will reach Delhi on Saturday,” the officer said.
Soon after Mr. Biden’s Air Force One landed in Delhi ahead of the weekend’s G20 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met United States President Joe Biden for bilateral discussions at his residence in Delhi late on Friday evening. The Prime Minister’s Office shared photographs of the two leaders holding talks on “various issues (that) will further deepen ties between India and the US”.

India and the US have issued a joint statement after the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden on their arrival in Delhi this evening. The statement said that PM Modi looks forward to welcoming President Biden at the next Quad leaders’ summit to be hosted by India in 2024.
