City-Wise NEET Results Show That 3.5% Students Scored More than 600 Marks out of 720; SC will hear the case on Tomorrow.

According to the data released on total candidates, a little over 81,000 candidates (or 3.49 per cent) scored 600 and above out of 720 marks in the exam this year.

NEET Results Updates: Following the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday released the individual scores of about 23.5 lakh candidates who appeared for the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The exam was embroiled in controversy after reports of question paper being leaked.

According to the data released on total candidates, a little over 81,000 candidates (or 3.49 per cent) scored 600 and above out of 720 marks in the exam this year. In 2023, there were 29,351 such candidates (1.43 percent of the total), and in 2022, there were 21,164 candidates (1.19 percent of the total).

A score of more than 600+ (for general category) was enough to get a seat in a government medical college (All India and State Quota Sets) in 2023.

According to the city-wise and centre-wise results released by the NTA as per the Supreme Court order, the scores of higher scoring candidates at more than 100 centers out of the total 4,750 centers where the entrance exam was conducted this year. The share was more than three times higher. NTA data shows that 600 marks out of 720 are higher than the national average.

More than half of these 109 exam centers are located in Sikar (44) and Kota (16), which are coaching centers in Rajasthan. More than half (24) of the 44 exam centers in Sikar have scored high marks, with candidates scoring more than 600 marks at least five times the national average (18 percent and more).

This is more or less in line with the analysis of NEET-UG results by IIT-Madras, which the Center had presented before the Supreme Court and said there were no abnormalities in the results indicating any large-scale malpractice. The city-wise spread of top 60,000 rankers in the exam this year shows 3,405 in Sikar, 2,033 in Kota and 1,561 in Patna. Last year, there were 1,993 candidates from Patna in the top 60,000 ranks.

The Supreme Court had said on Thursday that it wants to see the end of the case by Monday. It had fixed the case for hearing tomorrow on July 22.
