Bappi Lahiri Singer Composer, Music Legend, Disco-King passes away at 69.

Singer-composer 'disco-king' Bappi Lahiri has passed away at a hospital in Mumbai, a doctor has informed. He was 69 years old. Soon after his death, members of the Bollywood fraternity expressed grief.

Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri died on Tuesday, February 15 at a hospital in Mumbai, informed a doctor on Wednesday. He was 69 years old. He died around 11.45 pm on Tuesday night.

He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight,” Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of the hospital, told PTI.

The veteran singer had tested positive for Covid-19 in April last year, following which he was confined to complete rest. A wheelchair with lift was also installed at his Juhu residence for easy mobility and convenience.

Bappi Lahiri was undergoing treatment for many diseases. He was brought to the hospital on Tuesday night when his health deteriorated and doctors tried to revive him but they could not.

“He was unwell for quite some time and had been in and out of the hospital in the last year. In April last year, the singer had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after testing positive for Covid. He recovered after a few days.

The singer-composer, a familiar figure for many with his trademark gold chains that he wore for luck and his sunglasses, was known for his songs in several films of the late 70s-80s. These included “Chalte Chalte”, “Disco Dancer”, and “Sharaabi”.

Bappi Lahiri delivered popular songs in several films of the late 1970s-80s like ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Disco Dancer’, and ‘Sharaabi’. His last Bollywood song was “Bhankas” for the 2020 film “Baaghi 3”

The singer’s last appearance on the screen was with Salman Khan on reality show Bigg Boss 15, where he was promoting his grandson Swastik’s new song ‘Baccha Party‘.  

The music legend made his debut in the industry by providing the music score for the 1973 movie, ‘Nanha Shikari’. Last year, Bappi Lahiri revealed that he made his debut in Bollywood as an actor in a Kishore Kumar film, ‘Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi’.
