As part of the ambitious endeavour of the Madhya Pradesh government to provide medical education in the Hindi language, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday issued textbooks in Hindi of three subjects for MBBS students.

Shah called it a significant historical day and noted that Madhya Pradesh is now the first state in the nation to offer the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) programme in Hindi.

At a ceremony in the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, he unveiled the textbooks of medical biochemistry, anatomy, and medical physiology subjects in Hindi for the MBBS students and declared, “This day will be written in the history in golden letters.”

Minister of Medical Education Vishvas Sarang and MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were present.

According to Amit Shah, efforts are being made to begin technical and medical education in eight additional national languages.

According to him, the MBBS programme will soon be offered in other languages as well. The Hindi programme was started as part of the National Education Policy.

According to the Union minister, pupils in the nation would no longer feel inferior because they do not speak English, and they may proudly learn in their native tongue.

He had stated that there were 387 medical colleges with a total of 51,000 seats in the nation. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, the country now boasts 596 medical colleges with an additional 89,000 seats.

Earlier, there were 16 Indian Institutes of Technology in the nation; as of now, there are 23, as have been 20 Indian Institutes of Management, 723 universities, 1,043 universities, and 25 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT), up from nine.

The number of additional national level institutes has also significantly expanded, he claimed.

Shah congratulated CM Chouhan and minister Sarang for setting an example for the rest of the nation by launching the MBBS programme in Hindi, saying this will allow students to receive medical training in their native tongue.

In order to launch the course in Hindi, a team of 97 doctors, led by Sarang, the initiative’s driving force, developed these textbooks.

According to Chouhan, these textbooks use technical terminology that are pronounced the same way in English but are written in Hindi as kidney alone.

The chief minister added that students from rural areas who previously lagged behind and were unable to continue medical education due to a lack of proficiency in English will be able to do so by enrolling in the MBBS programme in Hindi.
