NEET PG 2025 Exam: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate 2025 (NEET PG 2025), the national-level entrance exam for admission to postgraduate (PG) medical courses, will be held in a single shift on August 3, 2025. Earlier on Friday, the Supreme Court had approved the request to postpone the National Board of Examination Medical Examination (NBEMS) examination. This National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 exam was earlier scheduled to be held on June 15, 2025 in two shifts.
A bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and A G Masih allowed the request by National Board Of Examinations In Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for extension of time to conduct the exam till August 3, 2025. Hearing a petition challenging the proposal to conduct the NEET PG 2025 exam in two shifts, the Supreme Court had on May 30, 2025 directed NBEMS to conduct the exam in a single shift.
Questioning the decision to conduct the exam in two shifts, the supreme court rejected NBEMS’ argument that there were not enough centres to accommodate all the candidates for NEET-PG exam. “We are not prepared to accept that given the technological advancement across the country and in this country, the examination body could not find enough centres to conduct the exam and conduct the exam in one shift,” the bench said. Following this, NBEMS filed an application in the court seeking extension of time.
It also allowed NBEMS to approach it and seek an extension of time. NBEMS then cited a letter from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which said the exam could only be held on August 3, 2025. Additional Solicitor General K M Nataraj, who appeared for the Centre, also said they had arrived at the August 3 date after several rounds of high-level meetings.
Last year, for the first time, NEET-PG was held in two shifts instead of one. The exam was held on August 11, with the exams scheduled from 9 am to 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm to 7 pm.
