According to multiple media reports, more than 25 lakh aspiring medical students have already applied for the NEET 2024 UG exam, which is a substantial increase of 4.20 lakh applicants compared to last year’s figures.
Potential applicants have the opportunity to enroll for the NEET UG exam through the official website Exams.nta.ac.in/NEET till March 16, 2024. The initial deadline of March 9, 2024 was extended to accommodate the higher number of applicants.

Notably, more than 55 percent of the applicants are females, indicating a significant increase in women’s participation in the medical entrance examination. This trend reflects increasing diversity and inclusivity in the field of medicine.
NEET Seat Matrix and Admission Process:
With more than 1 lakh seats available in medical colleges in India, aspiring doctors have ample opportunities for admission.
The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) allocates 15 per cent of the quota seats in the NEET counseling process, while the remaining 85 per cent of state seats are allotted by the respective state authorities, thereby ensuring fair and balanced distribution.
The significant increase in NEET UG applications emphasizes the growing popularity and competitiveness of the medical entrance exam.
Announcing the extension of NEET UG registration last date, NTA has said, “Candidates should note that this is a one-time opportunity, hence they are advised to use it carefully as NEET UG No further opportunity will be given to apply for 2024. Please note this and fill the online application form accordingly.”
