French Classes in Schools: French President Emmanuel Macron announced on January 26 that he aims to welcome 30,000 Indian students to his country by 2030. Macron is on a two-day visit to India and is the chief guest at Republic Day 2024. “30,000 Indian students in France in 2030. This is a very ambitious target, but I am determined to achieve it,” he announced on social media platform ‘X’.
He further said that the way to achieve this ambitious target is to launch several initiatives. “French for all, French for a better future” for teaching French in public schools. We are currently expanding the Alliance Française network by setting up additional French learning centres.
‘We are creating international classrooms (French Classes in Schools) that will allow students who do not necessarily speak French to attend our universities.’ He further said that France will “facilitate the visa process for any former Indian student studying in France.”
“Coming to France means seeking excellence. We now have 35 universities in the QS rankings, and about 15 universities in the Times Higher Education rankings. India and France have a lot to do together now and in the future. We will achieve this with you, with our youth, through exchange and cooperation, through trust, through friendship!” Macron tweeted.
This announcement was made last year by the French Ambassador to India, H.E. Emmanuel Lenain did it. He told Indianexpress.com that there has been a steady increase of about 25 per cent in the number of students going to France every year since the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
