The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a clarification regarding a circular claiming that all universities will conduct offline exams. The UGC has clarified that the circular, which is doing the rounds on various social media platforms, is fake.

The fake notice claimed that “As all the colleges and universities are functioning by maintaining the COVID19 protocol, the offline examinations may be conducted while maintaining physical distancing at their home centres,” the fake notice read.

“Hence, all universities are advised to conduct all current and future semester examinations in offline mode at their home centers while maintaining the COVID19 protocol.

“Universities are requested to take appropriate precautionary measures to prepare for the conduct of examination in offline mode,” the fake circular said.

Clarifying that no such advisory has been issued by the Commission, the UGC tweeted that “the University Grants Commission has not issued any such notice”.

About UGC:

The UGC, however, was formally established only in November 1956 as a statutory body of the Government of India through an Act of Parliament for the coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education in India.

In order to ensure effective region-wise coverage throughout the country, the UGC has decentralised its operations by setting up six regional centres at Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bhopal, Guwahati and Bangalore. The head office of the UGC is located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in New Delhi, with two additional bureaus operating from 35, Feroze Shah Road and the South Campus of University of Delhi as well.
