St. Stephen’s and Jesus and Mary College write to DU VC; Seek clarification on minority reservation in light of CUET

In fact, both the colleges are minority institutions and reserve 50 per cent of their seats for Christian students. Both the colleges release different cut-offs for admission while St. Stephen's also conducts interviews.

St Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College (JMC) have written to Delhi University Vice Chancellor Mr. Yogesh Singh seeking clarity on the admission process in view of making Common University Entrance Test (CUET) mandatory for admission to undergraduate courses from this year.

In fact, both the colleges are minority institutions and reserve 50 per cent of their seats for Christian students. Both the colleges release different cut-offs for admission while St. Stephen’s also conducts interviews.

The statutory bodies of DU have said that admission in minority institutions like these two will also be done through CUET. During counselling, as per the reservation policy of such colleges, separate merit lists for unreserved and minority candidates will be prepared, he said, according to a report in PTI.

“I have asked for clarity on the admission process through an email. We are fine with CUET because it’s either the board exam or the CUET scores. If the university has said it, we are okay with it,” said St Stephen’s principal John Varghese.

DU vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh said his office plans to write to St Stephen’s to explain that for general seats, it should solely take CUET scores, while for minority seats, it may conduct interviews and may give a weightage of 85 per percent to CUET. He said the College Jesus and Mary also wrote to him.
