Months after Indian MBBS students returned to their home countries due to Ukraine Russia crisis and Covid Pandemic, the Supreme Court has decided to help these students. The Supreme Court has now ordered the National Medical Commission (NMC) to prepare a plan in two months to allow students to complete clinical training in medical colleges here.
A bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and V Ramasubramaniam was hearing the NMC’s appeal against the Madras High Court order allowing Chinese university students to temporarily register in India. However, the Supreme Court concluded that there was nothing wrong in denying provisional registration.
“There is no doubt that the pandemic has posed new challenges for the whole world including students, but providing provisional registration to complete internship to a MBBS student who has not undergone clinical training, would be compromising with the health of the citizens of any country and the health infrastructure on a large scale,” news agency PTI quoted the bench as saying.
However, the bench understood the plight of Indian students who could not complete their clinical/practical training in foreign universities due to the Ukraine-Russia war and the Covid crisis.
Talking about such students, the Supreme Court ordered the NMC to “prepare a scheme within two months as a one-time to allow students who have not actually completed clinical training to undergo clinical training in India in the medical colleges.
