Medical-College: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has initiate a survey to know the amount of stipend paid to undergraduate (UG) interns and postgraduate (PG) medical students in self-financed or private medical colleges in India.
A letter released on Thursday said the initiative is being taken in compliance with the National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) order dated February 24, 2023, asking the NMC to conduct a survey to cover all private medical colleges, to find what were the prescribed rates of stipend for UG and PG Interns and to check whether they are being paid accordingly or not?
As part of the online survey, the name and other details of the student filling the Google Form will be kept confidential and will not be shared with anyone including the management of the concerned medical college. NMC said that all UG interns and PG medical students in private medical colleges can fill the form without any fear till May 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, the results of the survey were also sent to the NHRC. “An action taken report in the matter be submitted by the NMC to the commission within eight weeks,” the NHRC said.
NMC’s Mandatory Rotating Medical Internship Rules, 2021 say: “All interns will be paid a stipend as decided by the appropriate authority applicable to the medical-college or university or state.”
