JEE Main Exam 2025: National Testing Agency Discontinues Optional Questions in Section B Introduced during Covid

The exam format will revert to its original format, with only five questions for each subject in Section B.

JEE Main Exam 2025: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has removed optional questions in Section B of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025. Candidates taking the JEE Main Exam in 2025 will have to answer all the questions in Section B, as the option to select only five out of ten questions will be eliminated.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed that this amendment will affect Paper 1 – BE or BTech, as well as Paper 2A – Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) and Paper 2B – BPlanning for Joint Entrance Examination 2025. The previous allowance for optional sections was implemented as a temporary solution to overcome difficulties faced during the Covid pandemic and will remain effective till 2024.

An National Testing Agency (NTA) statement issued in this regard said: “Since the declaration of COVID-19 as a public health emergency by the United Nations World Health Organisation (WHO) on May 5, 2023, it was decided to end the optional selection of questions.

The exam format will revert to its original format, with only five questions for each subject in Section B. Candidates will have to answer all five questions without any choices, which will apply to Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B. Arch) and Paper 2B (B. Planning) in JEE Main 2025.

The statement further indicated that, in view of the above-mentioned amendment, the broad structure of the examination will be provided in the Information Bulletin for JEE (Main) 2025.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), in the notice announcing the change in the exam pattern, said that the registration process for the online JEE Main exam 2025 application form will commence in due course. The official website of JEE (Main) 2025 can be accessed at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
