IIT Delhi Scholarship: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) offers scholarships to deserving and deserving students every year. While some are in the form of college fee concessions, others come in the form of direct benefit transfers to students’ bank accounts.
Scholarships for meritorious students at IIT Delhi not only provide academic encouragement to the students but are also important for financial assistance. Donor-funded scholarships further strengthen the scholarship opportunities provided by IIT Delhi, enabling a larger number of students to excel in their academic pursuits.
List of Scholarships and Eligibility
B.Tech and MSc students whose CGPA is 6 and family income is maximum Rs 4,50,000 per annum are eligible for Merit cum Means Scholarship. These scholarships are awarded to a maximum of 25 percent of students and provide tuition waiver and Rs 1,000 per month. An additional 10 percent tuition waiver is provided to students who meet the income criteria. Tuition fees are exempted for all SC/ST/PWD category students.
Teaching and research assistance of Rs 12,400 per month is provided to MDS, MTech and MS(R) students. Dual degree students with CGPA of 8 or more in 5th year are also eligible for these scholarships. PhD students are provided a teaching/research assistantship which provides Rs 31,000 per month for the first two years of the program and Rs 35,000 per month for the next two years.
All PhD students are eligible for a grant of Rs 1,50,000 for travel to a conference once during their programme. Students who demonstrate research excellence are eligible for a second such award.
Merit and means UG scholarships:
IIT Delhi offers Merit Cum Means (MCM) scholarship to students with family income less than Rs 4,50,000 per annum (LPA) and GPA of at least 6. However, given the high cost of tuition of Rs 2,00,000 per annum (LPA), UG students of the institute with family income above this limit also require support.
Donor-supported merit cum means scholarships are awarded to students who are required to pay full tuition fees and whose family income is less than Rs 9,00,000 per annum. Students are selected based on their rank in JEE Advanced and continuation depends on maintaining at least 7 CGPA at the end of each academic year. The scholarship amount of Rs 1,00,000 per year covers half the tuition fees and the award is for 4 years only.
Other options like scholarship awards in the second year, selection for academic and co-curricular achievements etc. are also possible.
IIT Delhi offers 2-year MSc programs in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and admission to these programs is through the Joint Entrance Examination for MSc (JAM). Merit cum Means Scholarship is awarded to students whose annual family income is between Rs 5,00,000 to Rs 9,00,000, and is supported by donors.
Students are selected based on their JAM rank at the time of admission and continuation into the second year is dependent on achieving at least 7 CGPA in their first year. The scholarship worth Rs 50,000 per year is for 2 years only.
