Government of West Bengal Government Implements National Education Policy in all Colleges from 2023-24

The government of West Bengal said that students seeking admission this year will have to apply online through stand-alone portals of colleges like last year.

Government of West Bengal said that from the academic session 2023-2024, a 4-year undergraduate level program would be introduced in all government/government-aided/government-sponsored higher education institutions.

West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) government on Wednesday announced that the four-year undergraduate program under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will be implemented in the state from the 2023-24 academic session.

The government of West Bengal said that students seeking admission this year will have to apply online through stand-alone portals of colleges like last year.

“After consulting various stakeholders and keeping in view the future of the students, it has been decided by the competent authority in the State Government that the 4-year UG level program will be introduced in all Government/ Government-aided/ Government-sponsored higher education institutions Will go from the academic session 2023-2024,” the government said in a press statement.

The degree will be awarded to the students as per the national curriculum of UGC and the credit structure for UG level programmes, the statement said.

Students seeking admission this year will have to apply online through stand-alone portals of the colleges as was done last year, the statement said.

In Bengal, students pursuing graduation with honors (specialization) in one subject so far had a three-year course while those with no specialization passed out after two years.

The March 17 order was sent to the registrars of all state-aided universities by the higher education department.

There are 20 government universities in Bengal which offer general degrees. There are 49 government and 433 government-aided degree colleges under these 20 universities. Apart from this, there are 11 private universities which offer degree courses.
