From the new academic year, students of central universities will now be able to pursue two courses simultaneously.

Students will have an option that they can choose one regular course and the other through distance education. Under the National Education Policy, provision has been made for two courses simultaneously from the Central-Universities.

The University Grants Commission has made a new provision for this.

According to UGC Chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar, internship will be mandatory for graduate students from the new session. Based on this internship, the students will have skill development as per the market expectations.

In addition, students will be required to work on community outreach followed by field visits and projects. Internship programs can be run by working with business houses. Undergraduate and post graduate students will have a wide range of course options. More and more certificate courses and diploma courses have to be started so that students have more options.

The Ministry of Education has clarified that admission to undergraduate courses in Central-Universities will be done on the basis of merit list of Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

Apart from 45 central universities, more than 60 state and private universities are also expected to enroll students for undergraduate courses on the basis of CUET merit.

According to the Ministry of Education, central-universities across the country are trying to encourage Indian languages.

These universities have adopted the UGC guidelines for running two academic courses simultaneously.

Central Universities have started appointing Professors of Practice in various domains.

Professors in practice would be people whose first occupation is not teaching and they do not have a PhD. Despite that, they can be appointed to teach students based on their professional experience.
