CUET 2022: Important Points About Common Entrance Test for Undergraduate admissions.

CUET 2022 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency. After CUET, each university will admit students on the basis of merit list prepared by NTA, and there will be no general counselling.

On March 21, the University Grants Commission announced the launch of the Central University Entrance Test (CUET 2022) for undergraduate admissions in central universities affiliated to the UGC. The entrance exam will be conducted in the first week of July.

CUET 2022 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency. After CUET, each university will admit students on the basis of merit list prepared by NTA, and there will be no general counselling. Here are important key points that you must know about the new UG Entrance Exam.

# No weightage to class 12 board exam marks in UG admission:

From this year, admission to undergraduate courses in 45 central universities will now be purely on the basis of CUET scores. Therefore, the marks obtained in the class 12 board exam will not be given any weightage in admission to the university. However, universities can use the board exam scores as the eligibility criteria for CUET.

# CUET Syllabus will be based on Class 12 NCERT Textbooks:

The UGC chairman said the three-and-a-half-hour computer-based entrance test will consist of multiple choice questions based only on the content of Class 12 NCERT textbooks. CUET will compulsorily have three parts. Students will be marked negatively for wrong answers.

# CUET will be conducted in 13 languages:

In the context of the new National Education Policy (NEP), which encourages the use of regional languages in education, the UGC has decided to introduce CUET 2022 in 13 languages. These are Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, Oriya and English.

# No change in quota of reserved seats

CUET is mandatory for all 45 central universities funded by UGC, which means minority institutions like AMU and Jamia will also have to adopt entrance test criteria for admission. However, UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar clarified that CUET will not affect the quota of reserved seats in such institutions, but they will compulsorily admit all students through common examination.

“The only difference is that these students also have to come through CUET, just like students are to be admitted in general seats. Reservation policies and ordinances of universities will remain unchanged,” the UGC chairman said.

# International students exempted from CUET:

International students seeking admission in Indian universities are exempted from CUET. Their admission will be done on the basis of existing supernumerary.
