Delhi Capital schools have been closed for over a week due to pollution in the capital region. Last week, the Supreme Court admonished the governments and called for prompt measures to address the situation.
Due to the alarming rise in air pollution levels in Delhi, which have reached hazardous level, the governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh have mandated the closure of schools in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurgaon in response to a significant health emergency.
The air quality in Delhi Capital has shown signs of improvement over the weekend. On Sunday morning, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi transitioned from a Severe level to a ‘Very Poor’ classification, with a recorded value of 370. By the end of the day, further enhancements in air quality were observed.
The recent enhancement in pollution levels raises the subsequent inquiry regarding the potential reopening of schools on November 24, 2024. The most recent updates to the guidelines indicate that schools are also advised to remain closed under GRAP III.
