XLRI Delhi NCR Campus Launches PG Course in Automobile Design and Management

INDEA will offer a range of courses including the Master in Automobile Design and Management, refresher courses for practicing designers, induction opportunities for professionals.

XLRI Delhi NCR campus launches a new school of Automobile Design and Management. The primary objective of INDEA, the Indian School for Design of Automobiles, is to produce skilled designers and design managers with expertise in the automotive industry. The school will be operational by the end of 2025 and has been set up in collaboration with XLRI alumnus and automotive industry professional Avik Chattopadhyay.

The Masters in Automobile Design and Management is a one-year postgraduate program that will admit 20-25 students annually from various graduate schools after a rigorous screening process.

Dr Fr KS Casimir, Director, XLRI Delhi-NCR Campus, said, “Currently, this course will be eligible only for engineering graduates, but we will also consider taking students from humanities in automobile design and management courses in the future.

Avik Chattopadhyay, XLRI alumnus and automotive industry professional, said the need to launch the new school at XLRI was driven by the ‘strong revival post-pandemic, growing consumer preferences and the need for sustainable mobility solutions’.

INDEA will offer a range of courses including the Master in Automobile Design and Management, refresher courses for practicing designers, induction opportunities for professionals. The institute said a program in automobile restoration is also in the pipeline.

The XLRI alumnus further said that with this new programme, students will have a school in India for automobile design and management where they will be trained with the best in the industry. “Indian students have no way to pursue their dream in designing and go abroad after completing their graduation. With XLRI’s INDEA, students can proceed with their education and get jobs in design studios in the country and abroad etc.,” he further said.

He emphasized that a key feature of the upcoming school will include not only manufacturing in India but also designing in India by leveraging the expertise of highly skilled designers. The institute claims that it is the ‘first of its kind dedicated finishing school’ for automobile design in India.
