IIT Jodhpur Launches Masters in Design (MDes) Program

XR Design is a unique program that blends traditional design principles with cutting edge technology to prepare graduates for the future of design.

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Jodhpur launched a new Masters in Design (MDes) program named XR Design from the academic year 2023-24. This program is designed to prepare students for the rapidly evolving field of Extended Reality (XR) design.

XR Design is a unique program that blends traditional design principles with cutting edge technology to prepare graduates for the future of design. Applications for the XR Design Program are now open. Interested students can apply at – sola.iitj.ac.in/xr-design/.

For Institute sponsored Masters in Design seats, admission for first semester of academic year 2023-24 commencing in July 2023, the online link will be active till May 21. For self-sponsored seats, admission in first semester commencing from July 2023, the online link will be active till May 14.

The program focuses on teaching students how to design virtual, augmented and mixed-reality elements for a wide variety of applications such as healthcare and retail, automotive simulation, digital twins in manufacturing, remote collaboration in workplaces, gaming and entertainment is referred to as.

XR design refers to the creation of immersive experiences through the use of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies. XR design programs are typically software applications or tools that enable designers to create these types of immersive experiences.

Some popular XR design programs include:

Unity: Unity is a cross-platform game engine that is widely used for creating immersive experiences in virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality.

Unreal Engine: Unreal Engine is another popular game engine that is used for creating immersive experiences in XR.

Maya: Maya is a 3D modeling and animation software that is commonly used for creating assets for XR experiences.

Blender: Blender is a free and open-source 3D creation suite that can be used for creating assets for XR experiences.

SketchUp: SketchUp is a 3D modeling software that is often used for creating architectural models, which can be useful for designing immersive experiences in XR.

Gravity Sketch: Gravity Sketch is a 3D modeling and design software that is specifically designed for creating immersive experiences in virtual reality.

Tilt Brush: Tilt Brush is a virtual reality painting and drawing application that can be used to create immersive experiences in VR.

These are just a few examples of the many XR design programs that are available today. Depending on your specific needs and goals, you may find that one or more of these programs is the best fit for your project.
