The first international campus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi) opened in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi attended the inauguration of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi on Monday. The UAE’s official news agency WAM announced the inauguration.
During the event, Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed also oversaw the launch of a strategic partnership between IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi, its parent campus IIT-Delhi and Abu Dhabi’s leading higher education institutions including Khalifa University, Mohammed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and Zayed University. These collaborations will promote joint research, academic programs and student and faculty exchanges.
The partnership with Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi will enable the organization of joint research projects, postgraduate student exchanges and scientific seminars. According to WAM, Mohammed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence will engage in joint research, offer seed project grants and host internships.
Sheikh Khalid hailed the opening of the historic seat of learning as an important step in Abu Dhabi’s efforts to strengthen itself as a global center for research and development, The National reported. Sheikh Khalid, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, was also present when several deals were signed between Abu Dhabi IIT and several leading universities in the emirate.
IIT Delhi is one of the 23 prestigious institutes in India, recognized for its role in producing skilled engineers, entrepreneurs and innovators. As reported, the institute is often compared to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University.
Sheikh Khalid toured the vast campus and was told about its diverse academic programme, which include subjects such as energy, engineering and computer science.
The foundation of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi was formalized through an agreement between the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, IIT Delhi and the Ministry of Education of India, which was signed in July 2023 by President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had seen it the release said.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Details:
Admission to IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi for the academic year 2024-25 will be conducted through two primary modes: Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) 2024 and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2024.
Inaugural Batch and Future Plans:
The inaugural cohort of IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi comprises 52 students pursuing graduate degrees in Computer Science and Energy Engineering.
Selected through the JEE Advanced examination and the Combined Entrance Examination (CAET) for international candidates, these students come from diverse backgrounds including Indians, Emiratis and other international students.
Earlier this year, IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi launched its first Master of Technology (MTech) program focused on energy transition and sustainability.
