Admission News

IIT Madras has Implemented Sports Quota System for Admission to B.Tech Course.

To be eligible for admission through this programme, candidates must have secured a position in the Common Rank List (CRL) or category-wise rank list in JEE Advanced, and at least would have won a medal in any national or international-level sports competition in the last four years.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has announced sports quota for admission to its B.Tech (undergraduate programmes). A ‘Sports Excellence Admission’ (SEA) will be introduced from the academic year 2024-2025, under which IIT Madras intends to provide two additional seats in each of its undergraduate programs for Indian nationals, one of which will be exclusively for female students.

Although the admission process through SEA will require the student to qualify JEE Advanced, it will not be through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) portal. Admission to IIT Madras under sports quota will be through a separate portal run by the institute. This is jeeadv.iitm.ac.in/sea/.

To be eligible for admission through this programme, candidates must have secured a position in the Common Rank List (CRL) or category-wise rank list in JEE Advanced, and at least would have won a medal in any national or international-level sports competition in the last four years.

The total marks of the candidates in a specific list of sports will determine their ranking on the ‘Sports Rank List’ (SRL), which will be used for seat allocation purposes. IIT Madras will also launch a sports complex with advanced equipment, Director V. Kamakoti announced.

This initiative of introducing IIT Madras Sports Quota is to recognize and reward talented students who have excelled in sports. The objective of the program is to motivate talented students to pursue higher education while maintaining their excellence in sports.
